About Aquaculture International, Inc.
Aquaculture International, Inc. is a faith-based, 501(c)(3),
non-profit organization dedicated to the development and promotion
of the integration of aquaculture with hydroponics and other environmentally-compatible
agricultural practices bringing it into a natural balance. This
is being done through educational courses and extension outreach.
The organization is also preparing for the development of several
practical, innovative demonstration facilities which are economically
feasible and can be replicated by farmers, missionaries and other
interested individuals. It is especially interested in using this
technology as an outreach to the disadvantaged, such as orphans.
The organization is beginning to recruit volunteers of similar
vision for Winrock International and other organizations.
During their spare time while on assignment, each volunteer will
be encouraged to supervise the construction of a small-scale recirculation
fish-vegetable production system at a nearby orphanage, the host's
facility or other needy place in the area. Technical support and
basic materials will be provided. After the older orphans or other
individuals have learned basic fish-vegetable growing practices,
Aquaculture International plans to send teams to construct larger
production operations which will provide a constant food supply
and create jobs. In temperate and colder climates, these will
be in greenhouses. The long term goal would be total integration
and the utilization of all by-products for fertilizer, feed ingredients,
fuel for engines and for heating. Each place constructed will
be a demonstration facility which can be replicated.
International Voluntary Service Activities
During the past, Aquaculture International has not been involved
in international voluntary service activities. The President,
Charles W. Johnson, has completed numerous aquaculture-related
assignments in several countries. These were through Winrock International
and other organizatons. For current involvement, see the second
paragraph of the Business or Organization Overview above. In addition,
A.I. plans to apply for grants which involve international volunteers,
such as Volunteers for Prosperity Development Initiatives. At
this time it is difficult to estimate the number of volunteers
to be involved.
