About Hands Along the Nile Development Services, Inc.
Hands Along the Nile Development Services, Inc. (HANDS) is an American organization that develops partnerships between Americans and Egyptians to increase understanding through dialogue and to support Egyptians in their efforts to raise the quality of life for all in their land. Established in 1988, HANDS has been assisting development in Egypt through supporting over 30 Egyptian community-based organizations working in urban and rural areas.
International Voluntary Service Activities
HANDS provides volunteer opportunities for American professionals and students, where they can offer time and expertise to Egyptian civil society strengthening programs. Among these volunteer program is the annual Medical Mission trip to Egypt, which was started three years ago. U.S. doctors and nurses are invited to join this two week program which combines two types of activities: community health campaigns in which American and Egyptian medical professionals worked together, and formal teaching sessions held by US volunteers and attended by Egyptian health care workers and community volunteers involved in health campaigns. Total of six volunteers participated in Medical Mission in 2008; we hope to send at least 10 volunteers in April 2009.
