About IVUmed

IVUmed's 'Teach one, Reach many' approach provides sustainable solutions to vital healthcare issues affecting men, women and children worldwide. IVUmed trains physicians and nurses to care for women and children with urological conditions through hands-on surgical instruction and through a multimedia training program. By empowering partner medical personnel, we help develop self-reliant programs that strengthen the capacity of doctors and hospitals to sustain newly acquired medical knowledge.

International Voluntary Service Activities

IVUmed and its volunteers have provided surgical and medical training and service in the developing world for 15 years. We conduct surgical workshops in 5-15 developing countries each year, with 2-12 volunteers on each team. In 2008, we deployed around 50 volunteers. We will deploy even more volunteers over the next twelve months. In total, IVUmed has approximately 150 volunteers accessible for international service and support.

Volunteer Profile Summary

IVUmed volunteers are highly skilled and dedicated health and education professionals. Primarily, we seek physicians, nurses and support volunteers to provide training in medical and surgical care to committed host counterparts. IVUmed's mission is to build healthcare capacity through its 'Teach one, Reach many' model. IVUmed volunteers train international hosts to perform urological and related surgeries and prepare them to teach their colleagues and students, thereby increasing the local availability of service.
