About Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention
The Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention seeks to be a premier
mission agency of the African Diaspora. By networking human, technical,
organizational, and fiscal resources, Lott Carey works toward
transforming lives that can transform the world. Collaborating
with faith communities, cultural groups, government agencies,
and non-governmental organizations, Lott Carey works to improve
the quality of life among marginalized peoples around the world.
Lott Carey seeks to help build a better world through the following
ways:
- Building capacity for ministry, education, and health programs
and services around the world;
- Providing HIV/AIDS prevention education, care, and support;
- Helping to develop a new generation of leaders for the world;
- Enabling pastors to broaden their visions and build networks
for more effective leadership local and global leadership;
- Enlarging people·s understanding of what it means
to be on God·s mission to the world with Christ and in
the power of the Spirit;
- Supporting programs and services for homeless families and
children;
- Mobilizing women to pray for and work for African women and
girls forced into commercial sex work.
International Voluntary Service Activities
Recent international voluntary activities include:
- technical assistance (physicians, nurses, social workers)
for HIV/AIDS related treatment and prevention education;
- medical teams (physicians) to perform general health, dental,
and vision care;
- community and leadership development teams to collaborate
with church leadership efforts.
Approximately 75 volunteers participated in international volunteer
activities during the past twelve months. Lott Carey anticipates
a similar number to be deployed during the coming twelve months
through like activities. There are currently a pool of volunteers
accessible to the organization in excess of 250.

Profile Summary |
|
Representative volunteers normally are medical, educational,
or faith community leadership professionals. The majority
have graduate degrees with a minority having undergradutate
degrees. Medical volunteers are normally physicians. Educational
volunteers are normally teachers who can share in "best
practice" professional development activities as well
as assist in empowerment projects for women and youth. Faith
community leaders normally have the capacity to participate
in strategic thinking and planning as well as partner with
faith community leaders "on the ground" as these
leaders execute a variety of faith community leadership
activities.
