About Pfizer, Inc.
Pfizer Inc discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets leading
prescription medicines for humans and animals and many of the
world's best-known consumer brands. Pfizer's innovative, value-added
products improve the quality of life of people around the world
and help them enjoy longer, healthier, and more productive lives.
The company has three business segments: health care, animal health
and consumer health care. Pfizer products are available in more
than 150 countries.
International Voluntary Service Activities
In July 2002, Pfizer CEO Hank McKinnell issued a Call to Action
to Pfizer colleagues around the globe, asking the best and brightest
to offer their talents for up to six months to support non-governmental
organizations in meeting the pressing health care needs of developing
countries. Pfizer would maintain their position and cover their
expenses and salaries. Today, Pfizer has begun sending some 25
colleagues each year on assignments in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe
and Latin America. They are breaking new ground in the fight against
some of the world·s greatest health threats, including
HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
Since first accepting applications in February 2003, the Global
Health Fellows program has placed a total of 31 colleagues in
several international countries. The program received approximately
50 applications in the last round of fellows, of which 17 were
selected for the program. Pfizer is currently accepting applications
for deployment in first quarter 2005. Current application submissions
indicate a larger applicant pool, of which the program expects
to deploy a total 30-40 fellows (fiscal year 2005). In addition
to the international volunteer programs, Pfizer has a very strong
United Way Campaign, in which generous donations from Pfizer employees
benefit thousands of educational, health-related, civic, and cultural
organizations. The Pfizer Foundation provides matching grants
to support this commitment.
