About Practical Compassion, Inc.
Practical Compassion, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing humanitarian service to Haiti. We are comprised of a ten member volunteer board. Our focus is to provide food, education, housing, medical care and jobs to the people of Haiti. Our past work has included building several schools as well as two orphanages. Currently we continue to support these projects, as well as provide scholarships for children to receive an education. We also provide support for teachers and additional staff. Our future goals are to continue and strengthen these existing programs, and to seek out opportunities in economic growth which will have a long-term impact in a community.
International Voluntary Service Activities
Over the past 12 months, Practical Compassion has organized five volunteer trips to Haiti. Due to the continued instability in the country and security concerns, only two of the five trips were able to be completed. Our volunteer teams consisted of individuals with hearts toward serving others and who were able to accomplish tasks such as painting, carpentry and other miscellaneous jobs at the orphanages and the schools. Over the years, our teams have ranged from 5 to 15 people, from the ages of 15 to 60+ years and have included medical personnel who have run clinics in rural areas where doctors are rarely seen. As the political climate and security concerns improve, our goal will be to organize several small teams to provide support and medical assistance to the communities we are invested in.

Profile Summary |
|
A willing heart to serve others is the main criteria for anyone who would like to volunteer. At times carpentry and construction knowledge are helpful. Those who have a medical background would be useful working with the doctor on our board who conducts medical clinics periodically throughout the year. Traveling to Haiti has it's risks so we are cautious when planning our trips. Costs for these trips are paid by each volunteer and range between $800.00 to $1500.00 depending on current costs and what departing airport the volunteer will be leaving from. The cost covers the volunteer's airfare, food, and housing while in Haiti.
