About Sonje Ayiti Organization
Welcome to Sonje Ayiti Organization, which means "Remember Haiti" in Creole. Sonje Ayiti is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization geared toward the empowerment and advancement of children and adults through the transfer of knowledge and capacity building in rural areas of Haiti to improve the living standards of children and families. SAO believes that education and economic empowerment unlock potential, broaden world views, and mold the future. SAO also provides the tools for social progress, nurture children, strengthen families, empower communities, and build nations.
International Voluntary Service Activities
1) Sonje Ayiti is currently managing a goat project in the remote village of Bois de Lance, Limonade we currently have 309 beneficiaries receiving trainings on how to care for goats and is interested to focus on chicken/egg poultry; we invite volunteers to join forces with the locals to empower them with the necessary skills to maximize those resources. Professionals with background on animal health, goat/chick farming are needed. 2 professional volunteers visited the goat project and train local technicians to do the follow up, but we anticipate that 3-5 professional volunteers will be needed in the near future to transfer necessary knowledge to implement the chicken farming and assure the sustainability of the project.
2 short term Volunteer students are currently helping with reforestation nursery and tree plantings. The current degradation of Haiti requires immediate action. Flying over the highland seems like someone has taken a razor blade and shaved the beautiful cascade of mountains bare. Professionals with skills in environmental initiatives, watershed, and erosion are greatly needed to revitalize the environment.
3 times a year, we take medical team to provide basic health services, trainings to the community health workers, and traditional birth attendants. We can't ever get enough of medical professionals such as nurses, midwives, ObGyn, Dentists, ophthalmologists, and HIV/AIDS professionals. We would like to have at least one full time physician (family practice or Pediatrician) to serve for 6 months to a year since there is only physician for a population of 45,000 in Limonade. Construction teams to help build 3 schools in Limonade and provide clean drinking water for all the schools.
