About Tomorrow’s Stars
Tomorrow's Stars is dedicated to promoting quality educational opportunities for children in West Africa. We try to work in close cooperation with members of the community to assist in developing educational opportunities. We recognize and respect the freedom of self-determination of all members of a community. We forge sustainable partnerships with other bodies and organizations in developing educational opportunities. We seek new and dynamic ways of responsibly addressing the social issues of Ghana. We respect Ghanaian cultural standards within the community to develop and maintain methods and attitudes which minimize possible negative cultural impact.
International Voluntary Service Activities
Tomorrow's Stars is an all volunteer organization started in 2003. We started focusing on Primary and Junior Secondary (K-9) education but have now begun helping in Secondary education (10-13). Our most recent volunteer spent 4 months helping in a private school. She devised science experiments with items available in real life rural Ghana. See her blog at www.ghanawithshawna.blogspot.com. In May 2007 during a two week stay an artist painted the walls of kindergarten and nursery classrooms to help with the visual learning of the alphabet. In July we hope to have primary teachers work with Ghanaian teachers to help them better teach early reading techniques. Lasting change takes time and comes with small steps. The possibilities for a volunteer only depends on what that volunteer would like to do.
