AIDS Relief: How Your Organization Can Get Involved
Here is important news for groups interested in deploying skilled volunteers to fight HIV/AIDS in the developing world: The American International Health Alliance (AIHA), a major participant in Volunteers for Prosperity , has established a database for institutions interested in participating in President Bush's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Visit the website www.twinningagainstaids.org to register your organization online in the Twinning Partner Database. "Twinning" is defined as a voluntary, formal, sustainable partnership between two or more similar organizations that is established to provide technical assistance on HIV prevention, care, and treatment through exchange visits, training, and ongoing communications and information support. Once Twinning Partnerships are operational, the Twinning Center will establish a Volunteer Healthcare Corps (VHC) to recruit and support individuals with expertise in healthcare and HIV/AIDS for medium- to long-term assignments in the twinning partnerships and other projects supported by the President's Emergency Plan. The VHC is expected to be operational by winter 2005. The Twinning Center , funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a collaboration among AIHA, the International Training and Education Center on HIV (I-TECH), and the Futures Group.
